The Volkswagen Group was founded in 1937 by the German Labour Front under the leadership of Adolf Hitler. Literally meaning ‘the people’s car’, the VW has built a reputation of producing some of the best and most reliable marques in the world. It comes as no surprise therefore that the Volkswagen Group had the highest number of sales by an automaker in 2016. It is difficult to list the best VW car but the following are the most popular in the UAE.
First launched in 2003, Volkswagen aimed at creating a tough off-road car with sports handling capabilities, hence coming up with the name Touareg, after the nomadic North African community, the Tuareg. This mid-size luxury crossover SUV was based on the Volkswagen Group PL71 platform, which is also used by rivals Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7. Amongst the first generation Touaregs was the limited model, V10 TDI, which was a complex SUV powered by a 10-cylinder twin-turbo 5.0L diesel engine. The 2019 Touareg is part of the fourth generation of this range and has been wagging tongues because of it highly upgraded upscale interior. Volkswagen offers four different engines for this model. The initial launch will include two diesel V6 engines producing either 228 or 282hp while two subsequent models will come with a gas V6 engine delivering 335hp and a diesel V8 with a 415hp output. For the much talked about interior, Volkswagen installed an Innovision Cockpit system that merges the 15-inch infotainment screen and the 12-inch gauge display. This is completed with a head-up display and completely declutters the space. To top it all, the 2019 Touareg comes with the highest number of driver assist features in a car and this includes the night vision camera as well as the matrix-type LED headlights that help prevent the dazzling effect from oncoming traffic. With this interior coupled with the other modifications, the 2019 Touareg is definitely the fanciest VW SUV yet.
VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI
The Golf GTI is a remarkable car and this is evident in all the accolades it has won. Now in its 12th year of production, Volkswagen has continuously improved this car to make it one of the most affordable compact cars currently in the market. The fact that it comes with great features and performs really well. In the 2017 Golf GTI, Volkswagen added leather seats, keyless entry with a push button as well as an eight-speaker premium Fender audio system to the base models. As of 2014, Jetta was the best selling model amongst all Volkswagen vehicles with more than 14 million cars sold. The Jetta has been marketed for more than six generations, undergoing different modifications in the process. For 2019, the Jetta has been redesigned and is now better than ever. The newly redesigned upscale cabin full of technology that the 2019 Jetta spots will prove difficult for competitors to match. Like most of VW’s vehicles, the 2019 Jetta will also move to the MQB platform and is thus expected to be more powerful.
