The top fuel efficient Opel Cars

Opel is one of the oldest automobile manufacturers in the world, having been founded by Adam Opel in 1856. It also produces cars under the Vauxhall brand and these are mainly sold in the United Kingdom. Despite having its roots as a sewing machine manufacturer, the company ventured out into bicycle and later on automobile production in 1899. Even though Opel was bought by General Motors in 1931, it retained its headquarters in Germany. In 2017, Opel was bought by the French automobile manufacturer, Groupe PSA, for a reported 2.2billion Euros. Opel is known for its affordable and fuel efficient vehicles with the Astra, Insignia and Corsa models being the most popular.

Opel Astra

Even though the Astra nameplate has been in existence since 1979, the Opel Astra only came into the market in 1991 as a replacement to the Vauxhall Astra Kadett D and E. The Opel Astra was initially offered as a hatchback with three-door and five-door options, as well as wagons or caravans with five doors; and saloon cars or sedans. The Astra was loved for its affordability, fuel efficiency and great performance on the road. Over the years, it has received facelifts and modifications with the latest model being the 2018 Opel Astra. This features the latest engines from Opel that are highly efficient as well as a roomier cabin and additional technology. The Astra comes with a variety pof engine options including the base 1.4L petrol engine that produces 99bph, the 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder engine and the 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 123 bph, but can also go higher to 148bhp. The 1.6L petrol engine is yet another option for those who need a powerful drive. The 2018 Astra also comes with a reduced platform that makes it appear smaller on the exterior, but actually increases the interior space. Nonetheless, the 2018 Opel Astra will be lucky to get the title Car of the Year again because it faces stiff competition from the likes of VW Golf and Ford Focus, which also combine practicality and efficiency with great looks.

Opel Insignia

Opel Insignia is a mid-size family car that was launched in 2008 as a replacement for Signum and Vectra. Produced by Opel in Germany, the Insignia is marketed as the Vauxhall in the UK, Holden in New Zealand, and Buick Regal in China and North America. The 2018 Opel Insignia features a bigger cabin that has more technological features. The touchscreen is very interactive and easy to use while the dashboard features some good stitching. The infotainment also includes phone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Powered by a 1.6L turbo diesel four-cylinder engine, buyers also have the option to choose the 2.0L petrol engine.

Opel Corsa

The Opel Corsa is a supermini car, which was first launched in 1982 and produced by Opel. It is currently in its fifth generation with various name plates including the Vauxhall, Chevrolet and Holden. For 2018, the Corsa has received a transformation in the interior featuring a bigger cabin with better surfaces. Opel uses quality materials on the 2018 Corsa to give it a modern feel and look. Additionally, Opel also includes the IntelliLink Infotainment system that is easy to use and well connected with Bluetooth, USB and the smartphone. The highlight of the 2018 Corsa is probably in its 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, which is quite refined yet fuel efficient.
