Trendiest Volvo Cars in the UAE
Volvo was founded by Gustav Larsson and Assar Gabrielsson in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1927. Originally a manufacturing subsidiary of the SKF company that specialized in seals and lubrication, Volvo first produced its first car, the Volvo OV4 in 1927. Despite facing financial problems and being acquired by Ford and later by the Chinese Geely Holding Company in 2010, Volvo has continued to produce some of the best cars, focusing on efficiency and the latest technology. As of 2016, Volvo was the second largest manufacturer of heavy duty trucks. The following are currently the most popular Volvo cars in the UAE and the world.
Launched during the North American International Auto Show in 2002, and manufactured using the Volvo P2 platform. The first generation was Volvo S80 and was produced between 2002 and 2014 in Sweden. Currently in the second generation of production, the XC90 has been remodelled and is now called the XC90 or XC Classic. This mid-size luxury crossover SUV is known for its handsome looks, efficiency and safety in comparison to its rivals. The 2018 XC90 borrows from the 2017 model as it is powered by the turbo and supercharged four-cylinder engine. However, two additional AC electric motors with a battery pack for more power have been added to the 2018 range. Apart from this, the seven-seater XC90 comes with an elegant interior with very comfortable seats and Volvo’s infotainment system, the Sensus. For those who want high-end luxury, the limited edition Excellence trim level would be ideal
Although the concept of the XC60 was first unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2007, it was not until 2008 that Volvo launched the first generation of this car. Remodelled after the 60 Series, the XC60 featured a new shifting mechanism and style altogether that gave it a touch of elegance. In 2013, the XC60 received a facelift which was maintained until 2017 when the second generation was released. In the quest for reducing its carbon emissions, Volvo only uses four cylinder engines in the 60 Series as well as 90 Series. Both the XC60 and XC90 are based on the Scalable Product Architecture platform. The 2018 XC60 has received yet another major facelift, making it longer and roomier. Volvo went all out on safety features and pimped up the interior of this model. An additional T 8 Plug-in Hybrid trim has also been introduced in the 2018 XC60 line-up. The Sensus infotainment also comes standard in all 2018 XC60 trim levels.
The compact luxury sedan that is Volvo S60 was first launched in 2000 and is currently in the third generation of production. Based on the P2 platform, the S60 replaced the S70 model with most of its styling borrowed from the S80 and ECC Concept Car. The 2019 S60 is the latest of the third generation and is the first Volvo to be manufactured at the automaker’s American plant in Charleston, South Carolina.Once again, Volvo uses the Scalable Product Architecture platform to produce the four versions of the new S60. The base model is powered by 2.0L, four cylinder petrol with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the T5 trim level which is a front wheel drive has a similar engine which is turbocharged and produces 247 bhp. The T6 trim adds a supercharge to its all wheel drive to produce 307bhp, covering 60mph in 5.6seconds. The hybrid plug-in versions come in the T8 and T8 Polestar Engineered trim levels and are powered by 2.0L engine with a 10.8 kWh battery and an e-motor on the rear axle delivering 385bhp and 399bhp respectively. With its performance and cool looks, the Volvo Polestar is set to give the Tesla Model 3 a run for its money.
