TOP 3 LOTUS CARS IN THE WORLD
Launched in 1952, the Lotus Cars is a British automotive brand that is based in Hethel, UK. It specializes in production of sports cars and race cars with a strong reputation of building nimble cars that are lightweight and easy to handle. Following the bankruptcy of its former owner, Romano Artioli, Lotus Cars was acquired by DRB-HICOM in 1996. Lotus Cars is currently owned by Geely and Etika Automotive. It still produces some of the best sports cars in the world with these three being their biggest models.
First unveiled in 1996, the Lotus Elise is a rear-wheel drive, mid-engined roadster that is produced by Lotus Cars. This two seater was named after Elisa, who was Roman Artioli’s granddaughter. Artioli was the chairman of Bugatti and Lotus at the time of Lotus Elise launch. Powered by a 1.8L Rover K-Series engine, the Series 1 Lotus Elise featured a hand-finished fiberglass body shell that covered the aluminum chassis. This minimized the costs of production as it reduced the weight of the car, allowing it to accelerate 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds despite its low 118bhp output.
The Evora is a sports car that was developed as “Project Eagle” and officially unveiled during the 2008 British International Motor Show. Lotus used the all-new vehicle platform that had been previously used on the Elise to create the Evora. In 2010, the Evora was modified and a new model, Evora S was launched. This featured the supercharged 3.5L V6 engine. Subsequent models of the Evora include the facelifted Evora 400 model that was launched in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show and the 2017 Evora GT430 that features the most powerful engines of all the Evora models.
The Exige is a two-seat sports car that was first produced in 2000. Modelled after the Lotus Elise roadster, the Series 1 Lotus Exige was a two-door coupe. It was powered by the naturally aspirated 1.8L Rover K-Series engine and produced 177bhp. The Exige underwent several modifications with each subsequent production. The 2017 Lotus Exige Cup 430 that is powered by the V6 engine and delivering 424 hp is considered the most powerful of the Exige family.
